Startup First Steps
Startup First Steps is a 5-week entrepreneurship course focused on problem identification, ideation, market segmentation, and user testing. Below is a detailed breakdown of the course
- Week 1: Identifying Key Problems
We will teach students about the 4 different types of problems and how to identify each of them. Students will brainstorm 5 different problems that they are interested in solving.
Week 2: Solutions
This class follows a similar structure to the week prior. The exception being that students will learn about solutions to each of the key problems instead.
Week 3: Market Segmentation
Students will be taught about target markets, types of market segmentation, and how businesses use market segmentation to reach their customers. After the lecture, participants will create a market segmentation for their own products.
Week 4: User testing
During this week, we will teach students methods of obtaining feedback from customers to improve their products. Students will spend the remainder of class preparing slideshows to present their product ideas.
Week 5: Product Pitches
Throughout the course, 6 teams of students will create their own product ideas using what they have learned from the curriculum. In the final week, each team will pitch their product plan and idea to 3 judges. Our curriculum spanned 4 weeks as students used what they learned to prepare their product pitch on the 5th and final week.
